There are a lot of people saying that if you want to make money in creative writing online just set up a blog and start pulling in the dough.
It’s actually way more complicated than that.
The other thing is that setting up blogs shouldn’t be just about the money. Is it possible to make money from online blogs? Absolutely. But when you, as a writer, do most of your work from a money-driven approach, you won’t produce your best content.
I’ve written a book and a screenplay and am currently working on the sequel to the first book. If I was going at it from a perspective of, “I need to finish this so I can make money” then the end product would be less than stellar.
When you are doing any kind of creative writing online you need to remember the reason you are doing it. Writing an article? Maybe you have information that needs to be relayed. Writing a story or a novel? Then you have a story that you feel needs to be told or you feel like will entertain an audience.
It is absolutely key to remember the reason you are writing and that reason is not to make money. If it makes money in the long run then great. If it doesn’t, at least you did it for the right reasons and more than likely created a much better product than you would have if you were doing it for other reasons.
Remember, keep writing!
